The Youth Open Mic is a youth-focused art program adopted from the blueprint approved by the Chicago based organization Social Works Chi., Chance, The Rapper, is Co-Founder.
Youth Open Mic is open to 9th graders and up to perform any category in the arts and is held in an environment without hate or prejudice, allowing students to feel accepted and expressive among their peers.
Each performer is given 3 minutes to act, recite, cipher, dance, play an instrument, or perform any level of an art performance. The options are unlimited.
THROUGH THE YOUTH OPEN MIC
WE ENCOURAGE YOUTH TO #DOWHATYOULIKE
Each performer solo or group receives 3 minutes.
All group must be present at time of performance.
Youth in grades 9 through 12th grade and up to the age of 19 are encouraged to register and perform.
Each performer will receive a #YouthOpenMic t-shirt.
Winner will receive CASH prize.
To allow youth to be completely expressive in their performances, we have introduced a NO ADULTS rule.
The only adults allowed in the room are special guests and members of the Youth Open Mic team.
Parents/Guardians are allowed to drop off youth and return to pick them up at the end of the program.
